The Building Science Specialist Board of Canada

The Building Science Specialist Board of Canada (BSSB) serves as the national authority responsible for upholding, advancing, and protecting the integrity of the Building Science Specialist (BSS®) designation. Its purpose is to promote the designation across Canada, strengthen its professional recognition, and ensure that holders of the BSS credential are regarded with the highest level of credibility and expertise within the building science, engineering, and construction sectors.

The BSSB oversees the full pathway leading to the Building Science Specialist designation. This includes developing and maintaining the academic framework, as well as designing and delivering the courses that prepare candidates for the BSS examinations.

In addition to granting the designation, the BSSB is responsible for ongoing recertification, ensuring that BSS holders maintain their professional competence through continuing education and adherence to evolving best practices. Through these responsibilities, the BSSB safeguards the credibility of the designation and supports the advancement of building science as a recognized and respected profession in Canada.
