Mr. Naji Hassan has strong experience in building envelope restoration work, roofing, waterproofing and parking garages. Emma Ruixian Qian, is a senior architectural technologist at Adamson-Associates Architects firm, specializing on the building envelope. She was involved in a variety of projects with challenging building envelopes, such as Institutional & Judicial, Commercial, Data Centers, Retail and Residential projects etc… Emma graduated as a survey Engineer, but she more interested in the architectural field. So, she studied at WuHan Industrial University, Wuhan, China, got the Structural Engineering Certificate. She spent the early part of her career as a teacher at the Jianghan University in China, she teaches a few courses which included building survey, materials, structure, foundation, and so on. BRIAN L. ABBEY

After completing his formal education he entered into an Apprenticeship in Architecture in June of 1965 and attended Art School and Technical College for Building Design & Technology. He was accepted as a Probationer of the Royal Institute of British Architects in the same year and completed parts one and two of the Intermediate Examination by means of External Testimonies over the next three years. In 1978 he became a Senior Surveying Technician by satisfying the admission requirements and becoming an Associate Member of the Society of Surveying Technicians.

Upon arrival to Canada in 1981 he applied for membership to Construction Specifications Canada and he currently serves on the Executive Committee in the capacity of Architectural Officer and Student Liaison. In addition he became an accredited Member of the Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario and served on the Governing Council since 2005 and was AATO President from 2009 to 2011 and now serves as the Vice President and College & Faculty Liaison Officer.
In addition Brian has become an active member of the Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA), the Ontario Building Envelope Council (OBEC), The Ontario Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT), the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) and the Ontario Association of Applied Architectural Sciences (OAAAS). He is also on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Residential Energy Services NETwork (CRESNET).

Most of his half a century in Architecture has been spent working in Architect’s Offices or Architectural Departments of large organizations. However, he has been running his own business since 1985 and since 2002 that he has devoted a good portion of his time to his own successful practice that concentrates on high end Custom Homes, Major Additions and Renovations and other Low Rise Residential projects with a focus on Energy Efficiency and Sustainability.

Having reached the pinnacle of his career he has chosen to get involved as much as possible and share his wealth of experiences with others and most particularly the younger members and students in the profession of Architecture and those in other diverse disciplines within the construction industry.

Chuck Murad holds a Master’s Degree in Building Sciences from Ryerson University, a Building Science Certificate from U of T, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Damascus University. Chuck has a diversified knowledge of engineering, project management, Ontario Building Code, building sciences and building envelope investigation.

Chuck holds a Building Science Specialist (BSS) designation since 2005 from the Building Science Specialist Board (BSSB) and a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) since 2003 from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT). His Professional Engineer of Ontario (P. Eng.) license application to the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario is pending.

Chuck has worked for over 15 years with many construction companies and consulting engineering firms in Canada. Currently, Chuck works at Tarion as a Manager of Technical Common Elements.  Previously, he worked for 14 years at Tarion as a Manager of Stakeholder Relations, and a Senior Warranty Services Rep. for Condominium Common Elements, managing construction defecincy claims for low-mid and high rise residential condominium projects and dispute resolution.

Ryan has worked for Tarion Warranty Corporation since 2008 and is the Director of Common Elements. He works closely with builders, municipalities, consultants, and owners across Ontario to ensure Condominiums are constructed as required under warranty. Ryan graduated from George Brown College with a Diploma in Architectural Technology and has since obtained a Certificate in Building Science from the University of Toronto. Ryan has been a member of OBEC and has held the designation of BSS since 2016.

Bio Information:

Matthew received his Advanced Diploma in Architectural Technology at Mohawk College in 2013 and immediately began his career in building design at -30- Forensic Engineering. Matthew remained dedicated to growing professionally by completing his Ontario Building Code Compliance Certificate at Humber College, the Building Science Certificate at the University of Toronto and the CanPHI Passive House Designer course at St. Paul University in Ottawa. Most recently, Matthew has been working on his Bachelor of Building Science Degree at Algonquin College which will be completed in April 2019. In addition to the above, he has attended many professional seminars since starting out. All this over the past six years and while working full-time!

Matthew is a licensed designer under the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (small building and structural) and has been providing custom design and renovations for the past three years with his own firm, TenHouse Building Workshop. At -30-, Matthew assisted as the primary technologist for investigations on building conditions regarding structure, building envelopes, fire separations and exterior architectural building features. He also carried out surveys using a Total Station and Faro Focus laser scanner. He was then promoted to manager of the technologist team where he led in technical expertise and reviewed all small buildings drawings for design improvement and code compliance. Finally, he was promoted to associate and acted as a client liaison, writing building condition assessment reports including restoration scopes. In the past year, Matthew has left -30- to pursue his own firm where he employs two technologists and has a network of builders.

Matthew is passionate about building design and is extremely motivated to build a career in providing high quality buildings. He is a dedicated building design professional skilled in architectural design, structural design, building optimization, 3D conceptual planning and project management, especially as they relate to small buildings. His goal is to build high performing, beautiful homes that are sustainable and make people happy.

Ping is a Building Enclosure Consultant with the Diagnostics Group at Walter P Moore (Toronto Office). She holds a Master of Engineering (Civil Engineering) degree from University of Toronto, with a specialization in Building Science.  Ping’s focus is on building enclosure consulting and building diagnostics.  Her expertise includes evaluating, assessing, and designing repairs for distress related to exterior wall assemblies and roofing systems; historic building facade assessment and rehabilitation; building performance modeling; load check for existing structures; and parking garage assessment and repairs.  Ping routinely develops contract documents including drawings and technical specifications, as well as providing construction administration.

Rachel Gullage joined WSP Canada in 2021 as a Project Manager with the Building Science department in Ottawa. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Architectural Conservation and Sustainability Engineering from Carleton University and has over 6 years of experience in building science consulting. Rachel regularly participates in building condition assessments to evaluate building condition, diagnose structural and building envelope problems, and aid clients in capital planning.  In addition, she is responsible for the preparation of project specifications, drawings, and tender documents for a wide variety of building envelope restoration projects across the commercial, institutional, and residential sectors.
